In order to remove stumps from your property there are two common options; grind the stump, or dig it out with a mechanical excavator. 
Stump grinding is the preferred method for stump removal in most situations as it limits the extent of site disturbance and impact.

Five Star Tree Service is equipped with multiple Stump Grinding machines in order that they might efficiently complete your project. Whether you have one stump on a steep incline in the back yard that can only be accessed through a gate, or an entire site riddled with stumps, Five Star Tree Service has the equipment to remove those unwanted stumps.

How does Stump Grinding work?
The process of stump grinding is done with the use of a cutting wheel that moves back and forth across the stump surface, chewing it into chip sized pieces as seen below. During the standard stump grinding process we would grind an area approximately 1.5 times the width of the stump to a depth of 12-18”, depending on the presence of rocks and other obstructions. We can grind more extensively if requested for estimation of your project.

When finished, a mound approximately three times the size of the stump remains. This material is left on site for your use or disposal. If you request, we can remove these grindings for an additional fee. Locates will be called in if needed, however, items such as down spout drains, water lines, personally installed electric lines or irrigation lines and sprinklers, would be your responsibility to clearly display as locate companies will not do so.

The grinder can leave some markings in the landscape from the line to the stump during travel across the terrain; care will be taken to make these as minor as possible. In situations where turf damage is a significant concern, we can cover the path with plywood if requested prior to the date on which the stump grinding is scheduled.

Stump Grinding Pricing
There is a $65.00 minimum for a stump grind.
Rates per inch (measured at ground level where the stump flares out.)

• 4-25” $2.00 per inch
• 26-36” $2.25 per inch
• 37-47” $3.50 per inch
• 48-58” $4.00 per inch
• 59” and up Bid only

You will be charged whichever is greater, $140 or per inch price.
We require a 30” opening to access the area.

If you need a stump cut off or extensive grinding, we will provide a bid upon inspection. $10.00 charge for broken teeth on the stump grinder due to rocks, cement, Etc.

Customer is responsible for sprinkler systems, rain drains and other self-installed items.

If you have had a tree cut down on your property you can find yourself with the left behind tree stump to contend with. Tree stumps left behind from tree cutting can be variously described as ugly, taking up valuable space, and even hazardous to equipment, mowers, and trip and fall accidents. Five Star doesn't recommend they be left in the ground after cutting down the tree, and covered up, this can lead to problems with bees, termites and other insects. Completely dead stumps won't form root flares or suckers, but they can play host to root diseases and, as such, aren't worth leaving in and taking the risk. Physically grinding the stump is the best solution.
